The iconic Greenwich Circus Festival is back and it’s going to be even more spectacular this year to round off a year long celebration of 250 years of circus in the UK. Celebrate the history of circus in the UK by learning a new skill, having fun and being blown away by jaw-dropping contemporary circus shows!
Established in 2011, Greenwich Circus Festival is the capital’s annual festival of contemporary circus taking place at London’s oldest and leading independent circus school, AirCraft Circus Academy in Greenwich.
The festival is split into two parts:
- A Day Programme includes circus workshops for adults and youths, face-painting, games, and multiple circus shows to suit all ages (3 shows in total).
- An Evening Programme presents two major circus shows including a brand new production of ‘The Greatest Circus Show’ created to mark the 250th anniversary of circus in the UK. The evening finishes off with live music and a great party.
A separate ticket is needed for day and evening program.
Please see the exact programme below:
DAY PROGRAMME 15 & 16 DECEMBER
1130am doors open // workshops // games // 3x circus shows // licensed bar

Have you ever wanted to try a circus discipline? Here is your chance! For two hours you can take part in free circus workshops covering:

- Acrobalance and Juggling (youth*, adults*)
Perfect for a circus day out with friends and family or as a taster before committing to a course of circus classes. All workshops are included in the daytime ticket but you need to book your space separately AFTER you book your daytime ticket (just follow this link for free daytime workshops).

3pm YOUTH CIRCUS SHOW
AirCraft Circus Academy Tots (4-6yrs), Circus Ninjas (7-12yrs) and Circus Teens (13-17yrs) kick off proceedings with individual mini shows at 3pm, 3.10pm, 3.30pm respectively. You are sure to be blown away by what these youngsters can do! A great starter before the main shows begin.
4pm SUBMERSION SHOW
See the world of circus and theatre come together for a very recent pirate-themed show developed for Totally Thames Festival in September 2018 and performed live at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich.
We will take you back in time to 1709, when a Londoner’s common pastime was to watch a good execution, especially a pirate one. The Admiralty crew will set the scene by performing contemporary circus acts including acrobalance duet, aerial silks and aerial hoop. This will be followed by a pirate execution where the pirate (an amazing escapologist Dave Diamond) is lowered upside down in a tank of water, shackled and padlocked and has just a nail file to pick the locks and to free himself. Hold your breath as he fights to free himself in a re-enactment of Houdini’s water torture cell escape.
5pm CIRCUS ALL SORTS CABARET
They say a variety is the spice of life… enjoy our feature show with multiple circus acts delivered by a fine selection of performers from the AirCraft Circus Academy family. You will see a mixture of professional London circus artists, AirCraft Circus Academy adult students that have just completed our Act Creation course supervised by AirCraft Circus Academy Director and Choreographer Lucy Francis (and become real stars!) as well as amazing students from Temple Cloud Circus School in Bristol. A fantastic finale to end the day program!
EVENING PROGRAMME 15 & 16 DECEMBER
7pm doors open // 2x full length circus shows // licensed bar // live band // after party
7.30pm ALUMNI-ANTI CABARET

Our students have gone on to glittering professional careers with top circus companies or continued their studies at some of the most prestigious circus institutions in the world. We have invited ‘the best of the best’ from our professional courses (the most advanced courses we have available) to come back for this year’s Greenwich Circus Festival to astound you and set the bar high for the rest of the evening.
8.30pm The Greatest Circus Show
Enjoy the headline circus show of the evening, a brand new production created and staged by Lucy Francis, AirCraft Circus Academy Director and Choreographer, to mark the 250th anniversary of circus in the UK.
You’ve all seen the hit movie ‘The Greatest Showman’, now you will have a chance to see the real circus show. Come and celebrate the best of contemporary circus with hair-raising tricks and beautiful acrobatics in the air.
